Copley department heads give trustees wish lists for 2012 budget
COPLEY TWP.: Township Service Director Mark Mitchell would like to put a new sign in front of Copley’s administration building.Fire Chief Michael Benson would like to replace worn gear. Police Chief Michael Mier is eyeing replacing mobile data terminals in patrol cars and purchasing three new cruisers.Mitchell also would like a new one-ton service department dump truck, and Mier, the newest fourth-generation 40-caliber Glock sidearms — replacements for first-generation handguns his officers carry — and new sights for the rifles in their police vehicles.Items on Copley Township officials’ wish lists were discussed Tuesday night at a special meeting on the 2012 capital budget.Mitchell said he would like to replace sidewalks around Copley Circle if finances allow.“They are broken up and look pretty bad,” he said.Cost estimates for items requested by department heads are intended to give township trustees an idea of potential expenses as they put together the 2012 budget in coming weeks.Holiday toy driveThe police department’s annual effort to put toys in youngsters’ stockings at Christmas is under way. The drive runs through Dec. 14.Cash and toy donations are being accepted from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday at the Copley Police Department, 1280 Sunset Drive, off Copley Road.Checks should be made payable to Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 191.
